2024 Paris Olympics Design System
Amorphian founder, Julz Calasicas, joined NBC in 2015 to work on the 2016 Rio Olympics website as an associate technical project manager. A decade later, he's reimagined the iconography and applied it to the existing design system.
Stage 2: Refine
After the initial research and brainstorming stage, we moved on to refining our ideas. This stage involved transforming the fleur-de-lis motif into a variety of sports. We personified the symbol, giving it an anthropomorphic shape that allowed it to interact with objects, its environment, and other sports symbols. A key part of this stage was designing both positive and negative versions of the design elements to ensure compatibility with light and dark modes.

Stage 3: Reimplement
With a new set of sports icons in hand, we proceeded to the application stage. This involved analyzing the existing design system and reworking the pictograms across various digital platforms, including over-the-top (OTT) streaming, desktop, and mobile devices. Our research into the existing design system allowed us to replicate essential elements while incorporating our newly designed fleur-de-lis icons. The result was a unified and dynamic identity that effectively communicated the spirit of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
