Stage 1. Research & References

Our research into psychology and interpersonal communication identified many types of energy vampires.

Represent the characters in an anime style to appeal to younger viewers. We compiled different types of Japanese masks and traditional clothing, and consulted with Japanese colleagues on translations.

Stage 2. Sketches

Created hand-drawn concepts for three energy vampires. Each character needed to convey their motives and impact to their victims without any accompanying text (other than their titles). We sketched out the composition of each scene and identified moving elements.

Stage 3. Design

Refined concept sketches in Procreate and Photoshop. Imported files into After Effects to begin blocking each scene of the PSA. Reiterated between applications to apply details, textures, and patterns to the characters.

Selected sound effects and background music from open source platforms. Keyframed animations with sound effects to choreograph movement.

Stage 5. Final presentation and handoff

Applied scene transitions and textured background. Compiled delivery file with working file, image assets, and audio files in a zip file for final submission.
