Honolulu Flag
The capital of Hawaii means "sheltered harbor" in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. From this definition, we nested two golden sails symbolizing commerce safely atop a stable green island.
Appreciation Not Appropriation
As a kamaʻāina-founded company, Amorphian deeply understands the impact of colonialism on native and indigenous communities around the world. Designing a city flag for Honolulu meant leveraging our knowledge of Hawaiian studies to avoid cultural appropriation. We aimed to design a flag to represent Honolulu's inclusivity while respecting the rich heritage of Kānaka Maoli.
Sketches: Feedback & Selection
During the sketching process, we draw freely when we put our thoughts on to paper. With robust research and in consultation with Kānaka Maoli colleagues, our designs resonate across the Pacific and beyond.
